The movie students in India need right now.

Non-Spoiler Review

Chhichhore stars a good cast with Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles. It serves as a great comedy and provides lots of nostalgia for college days in the 80s.

WARNING: Spoilers Below!!

Firstly, we have to address the dark start of the movie. Suicide is never the answer. Just cause you don't get the grades you wanted/needed or get into your dream school doesn't mean you should end it all. Also, it's your life, so don't be influenced by other people's opinions/expectations, your happiness is the most important thing. Schools and grades and other people's expectations are not worth your life.

Side Note: It might just be me but I found a lot of similarities between this movie and It: Chapter Two, especially considering both movies released on September 6. Both movies tell a story about a Losers Club made up of six guys and one girl. Both movies start in the present but have flashbacks to the 80s when the characters were younger. Both movies deal with suicide early on. Anyway, it's just an observation.

Back to the Review: A lot of people bring up 2009's 3 Idiots when discussing Chhichhore but thankfully Chhichhore takes a different path. Where 3 Idiots focused on the academic part of college Chhichhore focuses on the sports aspect. Of course, that brings to mind 2012's Student of the Year or maybe its horrible sequel from earlier this year. But where SotY2 failed, Chhichhore tells a story about actual friendships and teamwork.

So obviously we must question whether reading a story from your college days is enough to pull someone out of a coma. Also, how is finishing the story more important than surgery in a moment of life and death? Of course, this relates to the biggest problem the movie deals with, i.e. jumping back and forth from the serious, sombre present to the fun and silliness of college in the 80s.

In the end, Chhichhore makes you wonder what is the point of this movie? Was the plan to discourage suicide and teach an important lesson that losing/failing is alright? Or did they want to tell a fun story about college while cashing in on the nostalgia of the 80s (which is very in right now)? I give it a 7/10.
